Paul’s Story July 18, 2006
It’s funny how the things you’ve looked for the longest show up when you’ve stopped looking. Wiebke was the most beautiful, unexpected surprise of my life. I knew from the first moment I saw her that I was in for something big. I even ran away! Haha. She drew my heart closer to her since the day we met. It was love at first sight.
The day after we met was what closed the deal for me. In our rush, my motorcycle slipped on some rails in downtown SF with my Wiebke on the back. When I looked back and saw her on the ground, in the rain, I cared about nothing else. My heart was racing and I only wanted to know that she was okay. As I picked her up from the ground and held her in my arms, I knew this was it. I felt bad for thinking about such things but the moment was so dramatic. Rain falling, my bike on the ground, the police racing to help, sirens and lights in the background, people started to gather around us. It was as if we were living the story of our lives.
Unfortunately, after such events, things need to be taken care of. I talked to the police and got my bike towed and raced to the hospital as soon as I could. In the cab on the way there, I got a voicemail from Wiebke’s nurse that told me she was okay. What a relief! My heart dropped with every word! When I got there I was thankful to see her smiling and not alone, the friend she was going to see was there with her. She had a shot and an X-Ray and we were out as soon as possible. We had pizza at her house, still very shaken up, and that was just the beginning of our beautiful relationship.
We met at our friend’s band’s concert and by their next gig, I was ready to pop the question. Afterwards, we drove off underneath the Golden Gate Bridge (in the rain), we ran for cover underneath a tree, and I pulled out the ring and dropped to my knee. We were soaking wet once again. The most amazing word I’ve ever heard in my whole life came that day, “Yes.”
I love you Wiebke!
