Un Lion D’Or De Cyber, Sil Vouz Plais. June 18, 2008

Filed under: Home, Travel, Wiebke, Work — Wiebke @ 3:42 pm

Yeah! We’ve just been informed this morning that we won a gold Lion in Cannes for the Interactive category (”Cyber Lion”). You don’t know what that is and why I am so thrilled about these news??? Well, let me explain - courtesy of Wikipedia.

The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival (IAF) is generally regarded as the most prestigious international advertising festival. The five to seven day festival is held annually in the city of Cannes, France (that’s in Europe), usually in the third week of June. Although the festival also features seminars, workshops and social events (!) for people in the advertising industry, the primary purpose of the festival is to present the Lion awards for the advertisements and advertising campaigns adjudged the best of the year (and to “connect” with folks in the industry on various levels…).

Lions are awarded in a number of categories, including cinema/television, print marketing, outdoor advertising and direct marketing. The festival introduced an award category for online media in 1998, known as the “Cyber Lion”. Curiously, the festival only created a category for radio advertising in 2005. In 2006 “Promo Lions” were added and in 2007 “Integrated Lions” will be added.

This is huge for our agency, the team…and, frankly, for me as the Account Supervisor on this project. If I was a bitter person, I could go on a rampage now and throw a fit about the lack of acknowledgment of the efforts, cleverness, enthusiasm, persistence, experience, vision, diligence, excitement, strategic thinking, you name it, that we contribute to selling excellent creative ideas. (Can I get an “Amen” from all you other Client Service peeps out there?) But luckily, I am not bitter. I am a very gracious person who will remain humble and stoked about being part of such an amazing creative team here at Hal Riney. (Insert: Dominic Goldman, I miss you and your endless endeavors to push our creative product to the most highest level!Love always!)

Meike, We’re On Our Way! June 9, 2008

Great news were awaiting me when I came home from work today: My I-512L - otherwise known as “Authorization for Parole of an Alien Into the United States” - had been approved. In short:

I am allowed to travel abroad and our trip to Germany in July for my sister’s wedding is not in jeopardy any more!

Just this morning, Paul and I were talking about the status of my Green Card application and were wondering when we would hear back from the Department of Homeland Security about the approval of my travel authorization. And there it is! Praise God!

Happy Anniversary, Honey. (A Love Blog) May 5, 2008

Filed under: God, Home, Love, Paul, Travel, Wedding — Wiebke @ 11:47 am

Did you know that the traditional first anniversary gift is paper? Yes, paper. So what came first to my mind was - a love letter. Well, you live and breath the internet so my love letter comes in blog-style. (Does that count?)

They say the first year of marriage is often considered the year of adjustment. So true, huh? :-)

When we moved into our apartment on 4th Ave as Husband and Wife last year, we had a vague idea of what married life would be like. But let’s be real, no pre-marriage counseling, stories and helpful advice from parents, pastors and friends, no books, no prayers really prepared us for the journey we embarked on a year from today.

But, no matter what the world threw at us (or what I threw at you), you would look up, your eyes tranquil, secure and shining with warm, undemanding affection and trust. You would put your arms around me, pray with me and just be your beautiful self by reassuring me of your love for me.

You were first a stranger at a bar, then a friend, and now my lover and husband. You saw through my troubled heart and soul, you believed in me. And you, I trust with all my heart to be the one who I want to grow old (and wise) with.

Paul, you are the most amazing person I’ve ever met. You are wise, enthusiastic, you are a dreamer, a believer and a doer. You have an idea and you pursue it until it is done. I love that about you. You are a man of conviction. You stand up for your beliefs. You value commitment. All these wonderful things - and so many more - about you, were the reason why I said “I Do” on the beach in Monterey on May 5th, 2007.

As we celebrate this special 1st wedding anniversary, reflecting on both the delicate and challenging aspects of our marriage and of our love for one another, I want to let you know how much I love you. Your love means the world to me. Your commitment to be my husband is God’s greatest gift for me.

We decided to celebrate our first year of marriage in New York City this past weekend. It was so perfect to get away from work and the rest of the world and just get that quality one-on-one time. It is so important with the hustle and bustle of the world to find time to spend with that special someone in your life. I do appreciate it that you continue to push me to make quality time more of a priority in our hectic lives. So besides declaring my love for you, this is my promise to you for the years to come - to get better at just “having a good time together and relax”.

Please know that when you read this letter-blog in the fifth, tenth or thirtieth year of our marriage, I will love you then as I love you today when our marriage is (only) a full year old.

Love always,
Wiebke

P.S.: By the way, if ‘Paper’ as a traditional gift for the 1st anniversary, you were the perfect husband when you surprised me with tickets (paper!) to the K.T Tunstall show at The Warfield. Hmm. :-)

Paul and I will be celebrating our very first wedding anniversary in the Big Apple!

Last Friday, we have booked our flights to New York. Paul’s friend Angela has kindly agreed to take care of Griffin while we will be enjoying our trip. Thank you so much for that, Angela! Besides being all excited about our celebration, we’re thrilled to know that Griffin will be in good hands.

Only 17 more days to go - I cannot wait!

Off at SXSW this weekend March 9, 2008

Filed under: Music, Travel, Website, Work — Paul @ 11:16 pm

I’ll be coming home tomorrow night, but I’ve been at SXSW all weekend. It’s a huge festival in Austin, TX. They have film and music arms, but for the Interactive section that I’m at, it’s pretty much the biggest thing we’ve got going on each year. It’s been a pretty amazing experience so far. There’s people, there’s sessions, panels, parties, more people, it’s amazing. I’m honored to have met such cool people here and I just hope that I’m able to keep up with them when I get back to SF. Really looking forward to next year already. Love it!

I’ve been missing my baby though, see you soon honey!

Missing My Baby… February 19, 2008

Although, traveling to L.A. for a photo shoot is fun, being away from my husband for several days kinda sucks.

Traveling to Chicago and entering another climate zone (ice!) AND being away from my husband for several days really blows.

Honey, I’ll be back on Thursday night - It’ll be late and I’ll be exhausted but it’s Date Night and I can’t wait to be back home with you and the furry monster.

Real Good Food. October 31, 2007

Filed under: Food, Home, Travel, Wiebke — Wiebke @ 3:21 pm

We like good food.

I mean, who doesn’t? We always try to explore in and around town to find (new) restaurants, bars, diners, etc with real good food. Then, a few months later, we forgot about that place, can’t remember the name, or just passed a nice restaurant that we want to try later and then forgot the name, or we’re trying to arrange a birthday party and need to find a nice restaurant with cheap meals, strong drinks and enough space to host an army of friends. Why not simplify (y)our lives and share what we’ve found? We thought it’s about time to create a new section on our website - one about real good food.

Stay tuned - and make sure to join us for dinner or drinks soon!kangaroo_steak_Oct07Oh, and this is me in Sydney (on our honeymoon), anxious to bite into delicious beer battered green asparagus on kangaroo steak with sauce hollandaise. Yes, I’ve indeed eaten meat of one of these cute, furry marsupials from the family Macropodidae (macropods, meaning ‘large foot’).

And it was some of the best steak EVER!

Australia, Here We Come. September 18, 2007

Filed under: Home, Love, Paul, Travel, Wedding — Wiebke @ 3:48 pm

The Thrashers are about to embark on their honeymoon. Finally. We have booked our flights last Monday.

map.australia.jpg

Our first stop will be Cairns (arriving Oct 7th) where we will be exploring the tropical rain forests and Great Barrier Reef.

On our list of Things To Do is most definitely a sailing trip in the Whitsundays for a few days and a short visit to the Atherton Tablelands where we will stay over night at this gorgeous place http://www.edenhouse.com.au/index.html.

Around Oct 16th we will leave the tropical North and fly into Sydney where we will be from Oct 17-24th. Equipped with a rental car, we will be taking an overnight trip to the Blue Mountains and hopefully catch up with our good ol’ friends Eleni & Chris (http://chrisandeleni.blogspot.com/) and Nicole & Andrew.

Wiebke will be attending the Everywoman’s Conference at C3 Oxford Falls (http://www.ccc.org.au/everywoman/) from Oct 25-27th while Paul will either watch the waves and pray that his wife will gain some useful spiritual wisdom that will enhance our beautiful marriage or he might decide to just hang out with those good ol’ friends of ours or take some surfing lessons. ;-)

On Sat Oct 27th our three-week honeymoon adventure will be over and we will have to head back home to San Francisco.

So, you lovely people, we would love to hear from you if you have any insider tips for the areas we will be traveling to or if there is this one cute, romantic restaurant in Sydney that we should not miss. Any secret beach hideaways or activities that we should absolutely consider.

Let us know - we truly appreciate your advice!

For those in OZ: Clear your calendars, we want to show you some love!

To all of you who have been generously given to our honeymoon fund (a.k.a wedding registry): Your contribution has been such a blessing for us. Thanks to you, our dream of an adventurous, romantic honeymoon somewhere very special will come true!

Australia, Here We Come. April 4, 2007

Filed under: Home, Love, Travel, Wedding — Paul @ 11:36 pm

Wiebke and I have decided to part from the usual way of doing wedding gifts or bridal registries: Since we both love to travel, the greatest gifts are contributions to our honeymoon in Australia later this year.

You can find our online registry here:
http://www.wiebkeandpaul.com/registry/

Can you believe that it’s only 29 days, 5 hours and 8 minutes to go???
We’re so excited and anxious to have you all around on our special day!
